Bed Frame Warranty Explained What Is Covered, What Is Not, and How to Claim

If you are buying a bed frame in Northern Ireland, the guarantee that comes with it matters almost as much as the frame itself. That summary comes straight from our published Warranty Policy, and the rest of this guide takes the policy apart piece by piece. For each part you will see what it says, what it means in practice, and what to do if you ever need to use it.
We build every frame in our workshop on Hillview Road in Belfast, so this guide is written by the people who actually stand behind the guarantee, not by a retailer reading out someone else’s terms. One note before we start. This guide follows the policy as published on our website at the time of writing. If this page and the Warranty Policy page ever differ, the Warranty Policy page is the one that applies.
The Guarantee in Plain English
Policy wording is written to be precise, which does not always make it easy to read. This table sets each key line next to what it means for you.
| What the Policy Says | What It Means for You |
|---|---|
| Frames are guaranteed for 12 months from the date of delivery. | The clock starts on the day the bed arrives at your home, not the day you place the order. |
| The guarantee covers structural manufacturing defects in the frame. | If the frame itself fails because of a weakness or an engineering error, it is covered. Changes caused by ordinary use are a different matter. |
| We register your claim and may send a specialist to inspect the bed. | Keep the bed available. Someone may need to look at it before a decision is made. |
| A confirmed defect leads to a replacement. If we cannot supply the same model, you can consider an alternative. | You are not left without a bed, and you are not forced to accept a model you do not want. |
| A credit note is available if you do not want another model from our range. | You can choose to use the value with us at a later date instead. |
| There is no delivery fee for the new bed and no collection fee for the old one. | Moving the beds in and out costs you nothing. Assembly and dismantling are handled separately, as explained in the claim section below. |
What the Guarantee Covers
The guarantee covers one specific thing, and it helps to be clear about what that is. It covers the structure of the frame. If the frame collapses because of a weakness in how it was built, or because of an engineering error in the design, that is a manufacturing defect, and that is exactly what the 12 months of cover is for.
It is a guarantee about how well the frame was made. It is not a promise that a bed will look and feel exactly the same on its last day as it did on its first. That distinction runs through the whole policy, and it is the reason the exclusions below exist.
The written policy refers to frames and furniture. If you are buying a mattress and want to know exactly how it is covered, ask us before you order and we will explain it to you in writing.
What the Guarantee Does Not Cover
Exclusions are the part of any policy people tend to skip, and the part that matters most when something goes wrong. Each of these is in our published policy, and each has a practical reason behind it.
Normal foam settling. All foam softens a little with regular use, and different areas settle differently depending on how the bed is used. This is expected in every piece of upholstered furniture that is used daily, so it is not treated as a defect.
Uneven height through use. For the same reason, a small difference in height between one area and another can develop over time, depending on where the weight and pressure fall. This comes from how the bed is used, not from how it was built.
Jumping and concentrated pressure. A frame is built for normal use. Jumping on the bed or putting concentrated pressure on one point applies force the structure is not designed to take, and a break caused by focused tension is excluded. This matters particularly in children’s rooms.
Discolouration. Fabric can change colour because of the environment in your home or the products used on it. This is not a manufacturing defect.
Wear and tear, misuse, and damage caused by you or others. Ordinary ageing, accidental or deliberate misuse, and damage caused by anyone other than us sit outside the guarantee.
Incorrect assembly or storage. A bed that has been put together incorrectly, or stored somewhere damp or in direct sunlight, is excluded.
Alterations. If an item has been altered in any way, the guarantee no longer applies to it.
Existing damage. Any item that already shows other damage, wear, or signs of misuse is excluded, even if the fault you are claiming for is a different one. The policy gives the example of a bed with a cigarette burn where the owner wants to claim for a separate mechanism fault.
Commercial or institutional use. The guarantee is for home use. If you are buying for a business such as a guesthouse or a hotel, ask us before you order.
Clearance and display products. These are excluded from the guarantee scheme. There is more on this further down.
A Real Case Study Beds Rebuilt After a House Move
Policies make more sense next to a real example. This one comes from a Google review left by a customer called Nikki.
The Situation
Nikki moved house and needed her beds rebuilt in the new home. During the move, the removal men broke a fixture on one of the beds, which meant the bed could not simply be put back together.
What Happened
In her review she describes what happened next in her own words:
“After sales is also great as I needed beds rebuilt after moving as removal men broke the fixture, no problem”
She goes on to say that the fixture was dealt with quickly and at very little cost:
“replaced the fixture for next to nothing”
Where the Written Guarantee Fits
This was not a warranty claim, and it is worth being clear about why. The damage was caused by someone else, the removal firm, and the policy excludes damage caused by you or others. So the help Nikki describes was after sales support given outside the written guarantee.
We include it because it shows how a damaged part can be dealt with in practice, but it is not a promise that every situation will be handled in the same way. The written policy is what you can rely on. Anything beyond it depends on the circumstances.
What You Can Take From It
Two practical lessons come out of this. First, tell us what has happened before you assume you need a whole new bed. A broken fixture and a failed frame are very different problems, and the fix for each can be very different too.
Second, when you take a bed apart to move house, keep every screw, bracket, and fitting together in a labelled bag. Missing parts make rebuilding harder, and in a warranty case a bed with missing pieces cannot be collected.
How a Claim Works, Stage by Stage
If you ever need to make a claim, the process in the policy runs in six stages.
| Stage | What You Do | What We Do |
|---|---|---|
| One | Email info@GSFIreland.com and describe the problem. | Log your complaint and go through the next steps with you. |
| Two | Send photos and videos of the fault. | Assess the evidence you have sent. |
| Three | Keep the bed available for inspection. | Send a specialist to inspect the bed where needed, and report back to us. |
| Four | Wait for the decision. | Confirm whether your claim is authorised. |
| Five | Choose a replacement from our website, or ask for a credit note. | Agree a convenient date to collect the old bed and deliver the new one. |
| Six | Have the old bed dismantled, with every part ready. | Collect the old bed and deliver the new one, with no delivery fee and no collection fee. |
Moving a bed in and out is free during a replacement, but assembly is handled differently. You are responsible for dismantling the old bed and assembling the new one, unless you choose to pay for our service. Our assembly fee and our dismantling fee are 50 pounds each.
On the day of collection, the team expects the old bed to be dismantled with all of its parts available. If anything is missing, the collection cannot go ahead and the replacement will not be completed. That is why keeping parts together matters so much.
Five Mistakes That Can Undo a Claim
Mistake one: waiting too long. The guarantee runs for 12 months from delivery. A fault you notice in month eleven should be reported then, not after the year has passed.
Mistake two: not capturing evidence. Photos and videos are needed to assess a claim. Record the fault before anything is moved, tightened, or repaired.
Mistake three: repairing or altering the bed yourself. An altered item is excluded from the guarantee, so contact us before you attempt any fix.
Mistake four: losing parts when dismantling. A bed with missing pieces cannot be collected, and the replacement cannot go ahead.
Mistake five: storing the bed badly. Damp or direct sunlight can put an item outside the guarantee. This is worth remembering if a bed sits in a spare room, garage, or storage unit between homes.
Clearance and Display Beds What You Should Know
Clearance and display products are excluded from the guarantee scheme. This is stated plainly in our policy, and it is only fair to say it plainly here as well. Clearance stock is sold at a reduced price, and the saving is real. The trade off is that the 12 month frame guarantee does not apply to it.
If you are considering a clearance bed, look at it carefully, or ask us for photos and details of its condition before you buy. Ask us directly what cover, if any, applies to that specific item. Your legal rights as a consumer are separate from our guarantee, and they are covered in the next section.
Your Legal Rights Sit Alongside Any Guarantee
A guarantee is a promise a business chooses to make. It does not replace your legal rights. In the UK, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives you rights when goods are faulty or not as described, and those rights exist alongside any guarantee a seller or maker offers. A guarantee adds to them. It does not take anything away from them.
This is general information and not legal advice. Citizens Advice publishes a clear, free guide if you want the detail for your own situation.
Six Questions to Ask Any Bed Retailer About Their Guarantee
Whoever you buy from, these questions tell you far more than the headline length of a guarantee.
One. How long does the guarantee last, and when exactly does it start?
Two. What is covered, only structural faults or cosmetic changes as well?
Three. What is excluded, and is it written down where I can read it?
Four. What do I have to do to make a claim, and what evidence do you need?
Five. If a fault is confirmed, do I get a replacement, a repair, or a credit note?
Six. Who pays for collection, delivery, and assembly during a replacement?
We have answered every one of these above for our own guarantee, so you can hold any other retailer to the same standard.
